Extensions from Great Lengths

Getting hair extensions is an excellent way to get fuller hair, add length or some extra color. Here at Björn Axén, we work with Great Length’s high-quality extensions that are made in Italy. We’ve asked Louise Epel, senior top stylist and salon manager at Birger Jarlsgatan 33, about hair extensions to find out how it works and address common questions and misconceptions.

For whom are extensions an excellent choice?

Adding hair extensions is an excellent choice for those who want more volume, lengthen their hair or perhaps add some color. There’re so many different things that can be done with extensions, and you don't necessarily have to use them throughout your entire hair. For example, it’s suitable to only place them in areas that lack volume or to create a bang.

Are extensions suitable for all hair types?

Yes, hair extensions are suitable for all hair types. However, to achieve a result that looks as natural as possible, it’s essential to choose hair that’s as similar to your own hair as possible.

How long does it last?

Here at Björn Axén, we work with hair from Great Lengths, which we either place with tape or keratin. The method determines how long the hair lasts and how often it should/can be replaced. Hair extensions placed with tape should be replaced every 6-8 weeks for the best results. The hair can also be reused about 3-4 times, depending on how well you take care of it. Extensions with keratin attachments last for 3-4 months, but we don’t recommend that you reapply the hair after that time.

How do I know how many hair extensions I need and which method that is right for me?

It entirely depends on your preferences, the result you want to achieve and your hair quality. Our advice is to book a consultation to go through your questions so that we can help you choose the hair and method that suits you best. Should you take care of your hair extensions in any special way?

There’re certain things to keep in mind when it comes to caring for hair extensions that you should follow to keep the hair healthy and beautiful. The first thing is to use heat protection every time you blow-dry, straighten or curl your hair. Heat protection is always important to use, whether you have extensions or not!

The second thing to remember is to nurture and moisturize the hair with conditioner and hair mask. However, it's important to remember not to apply it where the extensions are attached since this can damage them. The same applies when using heated tools, avoid using them near the attachments to not loosen them.

Also, be careful with brushing and don't go to bed with wet hair. Ignoring these recommendations can cause the hair to tangle and become heavier, which can strain your natural hair.

What are the common misconceptions about hair extensions?

One of the most common misconceptions about hair extensions is that they damage your natural hair. As long as you follow the care instructions and recommendations regarding replacement/removal, it shouldn’t harm your hair. The other misconception that I often hear is that it’s expensive, but it doesn't necessarily have to be, and many times extensions actually cost less than many people think.
